Advising and Registration
ADVISING
Academic advising is a process to promote the exchange of information between a student and faculty member and is designed to help students reach their educational and career goals.
Advising is a shared responsibility between an adviser and the student. Ultimately, the student is responsible for making decisions about his/her life goals by creating a plan to reach those goals. Academic advisers can assist in this process by helping the student understand options, determine resources and, when necessary, identify alternatives.
Students are responsible for maintaining regular communication with their advisers to ensure they are progressing on track for graduation and to discuss any issues or concerns during their program. We recommend students schedule an appointment with their adviser(s) every semester.
PRE-LICENSURE
Before the program starts, pre-licensure students meet their program director. The program director will serve as the advisor for pre-licensure students. Program directors will mentor students during their program regarding educational and service opportunities, development of their portfolio, clinical placement, preparation for NCLEX, and career planning. Students are responsible for maintaining regular communication with their program director to ensure they are progressing on track for graduation as well as to discuss any issues or concerns during their program. The University Degree Tracker system is available to students to track their progress to graduation.
MSN / POST GRAD CERTIFICATE (PGC)
The specialty director will serve as the academic adviser within their specialty area at the beginning of the program. Post-graduate certificate students will be assigned to the specialty director who serves as their adviser and will conduct a gap-analysis to identify needed courses/experiences.
CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION (CVP)
All students will be assigned a faculty advisor from the CV Perfusion program. The advisor's role is to review the student's academic and clinical progression. Students or faculty may request meetings at any point to discuss pertinent issues. Such issues may include, but are not limited to: academic progress, clinical progress, research opportunities or progress, and personal issues of concern.
POST BSN DNP / POST MN DNP
Post BSN / Post MN DNP students are assigned two (2) academic advisers: the MSN/DNP Director and their Specialty Director. For students in the DNP Nurse Anesthesia program, a nurse anesthesia faculty adviser will be assigned.
POST MSN DNP
On admission, post MSN DNP students will be assigned an academic advisor: the MSN/DNP Director.
