STUDENT RECORDS

Emory University, like other institutions of higher education, accumulates and maintains records concerning the information, activities, and accomplishments of its students. Because the University recognizes the student’s right of privacy, a policy regarding the confidentiality of the information that becomes a part of the student’s permanent records and governing the conditions of its disclosure has been formulated and adopted. The School of Nursing fully endorses the University’s policy and abides by it in all aspects of the confidentiality of and the release of information from a student’s record. Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) 

The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) pertains to confidential student educational records. This legislation allows students the right to view upon their request their own confidential educational records and defines the use of these records by others. No information will be released to any party regarding students in the program without the student's prior written permission. This includes names, addresses, telephone numbers, documents, and other data. It must be stressed that absolutely no one (including family members and employers) will have access to the information maintained in the school files.

Emory University adheres to a policy of compliance with the Family Educational Rightsand Privacy Act (FERPA). The policy: 

  1. permits students to inspect their education records, 

  2. limits disclosure to others of personally-identifiable information from educationrecords without students’ prior written consent, and 

  3. provides students the opportunity to seek correction of their education records where appropriate.
